Hello ROckstar!

Thank you so much for your time and consideration! Below you’ll find a collection of work that, I feel, expresses a small sample of my broad skillset while also demonstrating areas of expertise. While most of what is presented is traditional analog work due to my current practice, I’m very excited and prepared to flex my digital painting, 3d modeling and graphic design muscles alongside a world class team of creatives. If you would like to see more of my work please feel free to explore the Paintings section of this site or my Instagram.

SOlo Exhibition Design

Catalyst was my recent solo exhibition in NYC that featured cityscapes overtaken by a monstrosity of cables and conduit, which functioned as a visual metaphor for the digital world’s invasion and spread throughout the physical world. To continue that motif in the show’s graphic design, I created this custom typeface based on tubular shapes and tight grids. Additionally, I was able to reuse several of the 3d models I made as painting reference to create some promotional animations.

SOlo Exhibition Design

This logotype was created for a solo exhibition of paintings in Copenhagen, and was used throughout the marketing of the show for everything from the newsletter to the certificates of authenticity. The dice logo was created in Blender, which also allowed me to make some animated motion graphics as well.

3D Modeling - Blender

These are a few 3d models that I’ve brought to a fairly high level of polish for only needing to be used as painting reference. While these showcase the main way I use Blender in my current practice, I also have experience with procedural textures and shaders, toon shaders, digital sculpting, basic animation, motion graphics, and video editing.

FAQs

  • Minnesota State University Moorhead, 2008-2013 - 5 year BFA, Drawing/Painting

New York Academy of Art, 2014-2016 - MFA, Painting/Anatomy

My artistic education began in graphic design, but after three years I found my passion was actually in drawing and illustration. At the time, my undergraduate institution didn’t offer an illustration program, but allowed me to create a curriculum that featured illustration, painting and figurative classes. Their five year BFA program offered a full year of studio practice with critiques, that allowed me to follow my own interests.

This led me to the New York Academy of Art for my Masters degree, as I wanted to advance my figurative skillset further, make art world connections, and I was heavily considering teaching as a profession. At the Academy, I double majored in Painting and Anatomy, which gave the added bonus of studying animal anatomy. During my time at the Academy, I was also awarded one of their residency programs that granted me the opportunity to study in Beijing for six weeks at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the largest and most prestigious art school in China.

  • Although I’ve drawn and painted my whole life, my artistic journey really began as a teenager making merch for my friend’s punk bands and getting heavily involved in the Minneapolis graffiti scene. Making stickers, cd covers, designing and printing t-shirts, painting trains, and exploring abandoned buildings occupied much of my teenage and early adult life. This eventually gave me opportunities exhibiting at local galleries and doing mural commissions alongside a supportive community, which gave me confidence to explore art as a career. After going to school near Fargo, which is essentially in the middle of nowhere, I sought to continue my education in the art world capital of NYC. Upon graduating I had excellent opportunities with several galleries and found good work selling paintings with occasional artist assistant or art handling gigs.

Currently I work full time at my Brooklyn studio in DUMBO, while living in Bedstuy.

  • As a lifelong gamer, I I feel like I couldn’t have been born at a better time in video game history. I remember our family getting the first Nintendo, and playing some of the earliest computer games, while still having arcades to go to. Doom. Myst. Duke Nukem. Half-life, and the original Counter Strike. Starcraft. The birth of MMO’s, like Runescape and the epic 40 man dungeons of World of Warcraft. The Halo/Call of Duty/ Battlefield and LAN party years. And of course Rockstar’s own impact can’t be ignored, with the birth of advanced open world games.

Video games have been one of the few common threads throughout my life that have helped me connect with other people, and because of that, their history is directly intertwined with my own personal history. I love that I have gotten to watch video games grow from their infancy, and I feel directly connected to them as a medium that’s specific to our times.

A few of my favorite recent games have been Control, Stray, and lately I’ve been enjoying The Finals to get my FPS fix.
